Packaging Psychosis – Edge Article Jan 2009

This article was written to express my frustration with packaging that seems to prevent you from enjoying the product that you’ve just bought.  It does amaze me that so many things are so over packaged which is not only environmentally wasteful but means that you end up resorting to some kind of radical and dangerous opening technique.

Getting Licked by a Giraffe – Edge Article Nov 2008

My editor ask that I reflect upon a recent break I’d mentioned to him in Norfolk.  This was something I was pretty pleased to write because amongst several reasonably surreal things that happened during the weekend I heard the most fantastic expression I’d ever heard.  So that I could understand how things had changed in the town, a taxi driver in his broad Norfolk accent explained to me, “When I was a boy, all along ‘ere they used to throw fish at you.”  I still have no idea what he meant.

What is Art? Edge Article 2008

Following a spate of beautiful vandalism I’d witnessed on the walls of an underpass I went through regularly which always seemed to get cleaned off by the council I started to question whether or not it was art.  It was around this time that there was a lot of fuss about Banksey’s work with similar questions being asked.  I didn’t really come up with a conclusion but here is the link the article.  Out of interest, of the four images featured, 3 were supplied by me and one was added by The Edge Magazine Editor.  It will be easy for you to see which one he added.

Mayor Wets Himself – Edge Article 2008

Invited to the opening of a prestigeous local design studio I took it upon myself to sneak a few photo’s on my phone of the town Mayor with a suspicious looking wet patch down the front of his trousers. The article then wrote itself. Unfortunately the photo isn’t published online although it did feature in the magazine. More unfortunately I had to do a local plug within the same column so not my finest work but I was still glad to capitalise upon the opportunity of seeing the Mayor following his unfortunate accident.

So I have to take my shoes off? Edge article Sept 2008

From September 2008, one of My columns for The Edge Magazine that became available online. This particular piece tries to rectify my feelings on why there is a need to take your shoes off when entering someone’s house and that people who expect that should really advertise the fact better upon entry to their property.

Ferrari 458 Italia Modified by Oakley Design – Filmed in France at CERAM car testing facility

I was invited by Option Auto Magazine to film on behalf of Performance Direct Motoring News at CERAM test circuit in France. The subject? A modified Ferrari 458 Italia. The standard 458 was already a pretty quick motor but Oakley Design have made this car scarily fast. 0-60 in 3.0 seconds. Official top speed of 208mph (Although this has now been surpassed in testing), Oakley design have really perfected this car both in performance and also the look of the thing. Japfest 2010 – Motoring Show Overview / Cars & Girls Montage

Part of the marketing strategy of my employer is to make insurance a more exciting and sexier subject for an audience that, lets face it, have very little time to show interest in an insurer. Insurance is a grudge purchase largely forced upon us and one that most people resent paying. Read the rest of this entry »

The All American Soapbox Derby – Retro Video Viral

This is one of two video’s created for Performance Direct Insurance to utilise copyright-free stock footage from the past as a quirk to the overall marketing of the brand. There are vast amounts of this exact kind of stock footage with a lot of it being laughably entertaining by exposing attitudes that seem very much lost to the past. Read the rest of this entry »
